Little Black Dress Initiative

What Is The little black dress initiative?

The Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI) is a week-long, social media-driven fundraising campaign that was launched by the Junior League of London in February 2014 to raise awareness about poverty and its effects on women in society. Since then, members of countless Junior Leagues across the globe have started their own LBDI, harnessing the power of social media to raise awareness of various causes using the iconic LBD as its symbol.

Our 2024 LBDI week is Monday April 22nd to Friday April 26th. We have invited our members as well as the community to wear the same black dress (or outfit) to bring attention to hunger and food insecurities in the Greenville Community, as well as the importance of physical activity and healthy eating habits (our Community Impact focus). In addition to the Little Black Dress, participants will wear buttons with the phrase Ask Me Why I Wear Black.  Our goal is to spark conversation and awareness about our Community Impact focus.

All funds raised through the Little Black Dress Initiative go to the JLG Annual Fund. These funds allow the JLG to improve its community through its partnerships with community organizations and to provide members with volunteer training, leadership, and personal development opportunities.
